Back at work

planning 2009-08-01 ..

note: although I planned this in my last log, I want to have it here since it's this week that I should be getting the P90X+ DVDs

 and starting a Pre-program to see how they'll fit in when I re-load the training in September. I read today on a forum that it's mostly the Interval DVD that is extreme, and that the others are more for maintaining than for building. This is fine by me, though I think there will still be exercises in each session that I'll need to adapt..

I find the schedule on the web.. so I start visualizing the plan.

Stiff all day but with Tylenols in th AM hid it at work. Felt a bit better than yesterday.

P90X+ DVDs — I was supposed to get it in the mail on July 30th and still don't have it. In fact, the tracking number tells me that Post Canada doesn't even have it yet! I wrote to beachbody.com for an explanation.

lower back, left side hurts. Still a little stiff, and to fragile to go to group fitness but go through the day without any Tylenols but I take some in the evening and still don't feel well doing a WO. I'm sort of scared of hiking what we have planned for Saturday.

DIET
Decide that I want to force myself to drink a mug (500ml) of water every day when I get home, before allowing myself to eat anything

It's only the last hour that is really challenging. One thing that I experienced was climbing by pushing left foot to the left and right hand to the right on opposite rocks that had no place to grip.  NOTE: If I do this trail again or something like Mount Washington's Huntington Ravine.. I want to have either new hiking boots (new soles) or special non-slip soles for climbing slipery rocks.

It's going down that we realize how much we had actually gone up, since during the challenging part going up, we couldn't really go fast, because we had to be careful not to slip.

"Approach Shoes Come in two varieties, the general multi-activity shoe and stickier versions designed for climbing use and featuring sticky rubber like those from Five.Ten. General purpose shoes tend to have decent lateral rigidity these days and apart from the lack of ankle protection, which means they're not always ideal for foot jams in rough cracks, perform pretty much like walking boots.

Shoes using genuinely sticky rubber will perform more like a rock shoe with better smearing ability than boots and, if fitted closely, good sensitivity on the rock. Great for slabbier route which call for smearing and well up to easier stuff too.

Specialist Scrambling / Via Ferrata Boots Not a lot of these about, the Scarpa Mescalito being probably the best known with a stiff mid-sole and sticky rubber where it counts, Garmont's new Ferrata boot, which also comes in a fully stiff shoe version, also looks to have come from the same mould and looks like a modern version of the Kletterschue. These are ideal for harder scramblers and cheating on grade ones, they'll also handle long, mid-grade climbing routes and are comfortable for walking as well. Disadvantages? The stickier the rubber, the more likely it is to wear rapidly with use which is presumably why Scarpa replaced their original full Megabite rubber sole with an updated version which has a sticky toes section but otherwise standard rubber. The best solution but do you scramble often and hard enough to justify the outlay?"

It's not that the places that I go to are sooo difficult, it's just that I need to put the most things on my side. With something like the Scarpa Zen Lady?

I haven't done this WO since August 1st, and the last times that I did it I got bruises on my hips from the "banana & superman" exercises.. Today I was really feeling yesterday's Total Body WO.. I was "slowmo" all the way. Also maybe I'm not eating well these days, sort of like "off diet before starting on Monday". Not bingeing but too much peanut butter and not enough veggies.
